“Women cultivating the future” call for a rural world with “more opportunities, less red tape and greater recognition”

The Ministry of Agriculture holds an event at the As Quintas auditorium in La Caridad reflecting on the importance of women’s presence and talent in the countryside

A question from the audience turned out to be the ideal starting point for talking about the future: how women connected with rural life want to see themselves in a few years’ time and what would have to change for that future to stop being an aspiration and start becoming a reality. It happened at the As Quintas cultural complex in La Caridad, which on Wednesday hosted the institutional event “Mujeres que cultivan futuro” (Women cultivating the future), organised to mark the International Year of Agriculture 2026 and promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, in collaboration with the Principality of Asturias.

The gathering gave a voice to women involved in agriculture, livestock farming, the agri-food industry, innovation and rural entrepreneurship. The conversation moved from personal experiences to the major collective challenges: sustainability, generational renewal, depopulation, the need for training, red tape and the adoption of new technologies in rural areas.
