The awards recognise the work of companies and institutions in support of innovation, quality employment, internationalisation and technological development: «They are a clear example of the strong economic heartbeat of Asturias»
The technology-based companies Alphatech, Agrolinera, Loutkar Robotics and SVMAC were recognised on Thursday with the Radar Awards for entrepreneurial innovation, granted by the Government of Asturias.
The head of the regional government, Adrián Barbón, took part in the presentation of the Asturias Economy and Future Awards 2024 (Premios Asturias Economía y Futuro), which recognise the work of companies and institutions in support of innovation, quality employment, internationalisation and technological development.
In the Radar category, now in its fourth edition and whose winners were announced during the event, four initiatives in the fields of electronics, digitalisation, robotics and sustainable vehicles were recognised, and will share 80,000 euros.
In the Spin-off category, the company receiving the 15,000 euros is AlphaTech, for the initiative promoted by three researchers from the Signal Theory and Communications group of the Department of Electrical, Electronic, Communications and Systems Engineering at the University of Oviedo, which develops foldable skin-like antennas for small satellites.
In the Best Technology-Based Company category, two companies were awarded, each receiving 25,000 euros: Agrolinera Astur, recognised for developing technology to digitalise the collection of livestock and dairy waste, and Loutkar Robotics, for developing robotic devices that help people with lower-limb disabilities walk again and regain their independence.
The Radar Award in the EBT SDG category, aimed at raising the profile of and supporting projects with demonstrable impact and results geared towards the Sustainable Development Goals, worth 15,000 euros, went to SVMAC, for developing unmanned vehicles specially designed for agroforestry land and areas of complex terrain, which contribute to environmental sustainability and conservation.
Sekuens Awards
The Sekuens Awards, which recognise the work of companies, organisations or individuals in the economic promotion of science and technology, were also presented at the event.
ITS Safety (Integral Thermal Shield, S.L) received one of the awards for its diversification and growth strategy since its founding in 2013, which in recent years has created quality jobs for 25 people. IFF (International Flavors & Fragrances IFF España, S.A) was another company honoured, for its international profile and its leadership in food, beverages, health, biosciences and fragrances.
Another of the Sekuens Awards went to the Defence Delegation in the Principality of Asturias and the Príncipe No. 3 Light Infantry Regiment for their contribution to and promotion of the defence industry in the region.
Asturias, a land of «opportunities»
At the event, the President of the Principality highlighted the «outstanding» track records of the award-winning companies, very different from one another, but whose key to success is «constant, day-to-day work». As he put it, all of them are a «clear example of the strong economic heartbeat of Asturias», a region that «has become fertile ground for business growth».
«How many times have we had to hear that Asturias is barren ground for attracting new companies. However, repeating a mantra does not make it true, far from it. In fact, the statistics we have show quite the opposite», he said.
The president pointed out that in the first half of this year «595 million in investment from foreign companies interested in doing business in Asturias» had been received, an amount that «exceeds the foreign capital invested in the region during the whole of last year», Efe reports.
